You can usually shower soon after endoscopic DCR surgery, but you should keep soap and water away from the eye and nose.
Early showering precautions
Although there is no external cut, the nasal lining and tear passage are delicate. Gentle washing keeps you clean without disturbing healing.
- Shower with your back to the water when possible
- Avoid direct spray onto your face and eyes
- Do not sniff water up the nose or blow forcefully afterwards
- Pat the face dry with a clean towel instead of rubbing
- Avoid very hot showers that may trigger bleeding
Returning to normal washing
As congestion and tenderness settle, you can gradually relax these precautions. Your team will guide you on timing.
- Normal showering is often possible after about a week
- Continue to avoid vigorous face rubbing for longer
- Keep strong shampoos and facial products away from the eyes and nose
- Delay swimming pools and hot tubs until fully cleared
- Contact the clinic if bleeding, discharge, or pain increase after showering
