Can I shower after dermatochalasis surgery?

< 1 min read

Careful showering is usually allowed a day or two after dermatochalasis surgery. Keeping incision lines clean yet relatively dry helps them heal smoothly.

Showering in the first week

The eyelid skin is delicate and often stitched. Gentle techniques avoid disturbing the repair.

  • Turn your back to the shower and keep direct spray off your face.
  • Use a flannel to wash your face, avoiding the incision areas.
  • Do not rub, pick, or scrub the healing skin.
  • Pat around the eyes dry with a soft towel rather than wiping.
  • Follow instructions about keeping tapes or dressings dry.

Resuming normal washing routines

As wounds seal and stitches are removed, daily washing becomes easier. Your surgeon will confirm when full face washing is safe.

  • Gentle cleansing with mild soap is usually allowed after about a week.
  • Avoid very hot, steamy showers that may increase swelling.
  • Reapply ointments or drops after washing as directed.
  • Seek review if you notice redness, discharge, or wound separation.
  • Good hygiene supports neat scars and comfortable lids.
