You can usually shower soon after conjunctival naevus laser removal surgery, but it is important to keep water, soap, and shampoo out of your eyes while the surface heals.
First few days
In the early phase the treated conjunctiva is delicate and easily irritated. Gentle shower habits help protect it from chemicals and accidental rubbing.
- Keep your eyes closed in the shower and avoid directing the spray at your face.
- Do not rub if water or product enters the eye; let it rinse away gently and then use lubricating drops.
- Avoid getting make-up remover or facial scrubs near the treated eye.
- Skip baths, hot tubs, and saunas, which carry higher infection risk.
- Pat around the eye dry with a clean towel rather than wiping.
After the first week
As redness and soreness ease, you can usually relax these restrictions, following your surgeon’s specific guidance. Common sense and gentle handling remain important.
- Gradually return to a more normal shower routine while still avoiding forceful rubbing.
- Use mild, fragrance free products if your eyes remain sensitive.
- Wait to resume swimming until your clinician confirms the surface is fully healed.
- Continue prescribed drops after showering, allowing them time to soak in.
- Report any persistent burning, discharge, or worsening redness after washing.
