Can I shower after blepharoplasty surgery?

< 1 min read

Careful showering is usually allowed a day or two after blepharoplasty. Keeping the eyelid wounds clean and relatively dry helps prevent infection and supports neat scars.

Showering safely in the first week

The skin around your eyes is delicate and often stitched. Gentle techniques avoid disturbing the repair.

  • Keep your back to the shower and avoid direct spray on your face.
  • Use a flannel to wash your face, steering clear of the incision lines.
  • Do not rub, pick, or scrub healing areas.
  • Pat around the eyes dry with a soft towel instead of wiping.
  • Follow any instructions about keeping tapes or dressings dry.

Resuming normal washing routines

As wounds seal and stitches are removed, you can gradually return to your usual routine. Your surgeon will confirm exact timing.

  • Gentle face washing with mild cleanser is usually allowed after about a week.
  • Avoid very hot, steamy showers that may increase swelling.
  • Reapply ointment or drops after washing, as directed.
  • Seek review if you notice redness, discharge, or gaping of the wound.
  • Good hygiene supports smooth healing and subtle scars.
