Can I fly after LASEK?

< 1 min read

Flying after LASEK is generally safe once the surface has healed and your surgeon is happy with early recovery. Cabin dryness is the main issue to plan for.

Timing

Short‑haul flights are often possible within a week or two.

  • Confirm specific timing with your clinic, especially if you have had high prescriptions or combined procedures.
  • Ideally attend at least one post‑operative check before travelling.
  • Ensure you have enough drops and a written summary of your surgery and medications.
  • Avoid rubbing or pressing on your eyes during the journey.

Comfort While Travelling

Low humidity and air vents can aggravate healing eyes.

  • Use lubricating drops frequently in the air and stay well hydrated.
  • Turn off or redirect overhead vents that blow directly on your face.
  • Try to avoid sleeping with your face pressed against surfaces.
  • Seek medical advice promptly if you notice marked pain, redness, or vision loss during or after your trip.
