Only light housework is recommended in the first weeks after orbital decompression surgery, with heavier chores delayed to protect healing tissues.
Safe light activities
Simple tasks help you stay mobile without straining the orbits. Move slowly and listen to your body.
- Gentle cooking and light tidying are usually acceptable after your team agrees
- Avoid bending low or lifting heavy pans and shopping bags
- Keep cleaning products away from your eyes and nose
- Use lubricating drops if your eyes feel dry during chores
- Stop if you notice throbbing, pressure, or worsening double vision
Heavier cleaning and DIY tasks
Jobs involving dust, strong effort, or risk of knocks can endanger the surgical result.
- Delay vacuuming, deep cleaning, heavy gardening, and DIY for several weeks
- Ask family or friends for help with strenuous tasks initially
- Wear protective glasses and a mask if working in dusty areas later on
- Avoid ladders until balance and vision feel reliable
- Review your activity plan with the team at each follow-up
