After DCR tear duct surgery some activities need to be limited to protect healing tissues. Following these restrictions reduces the risk of bleeding infection or stent problems.
Early restrictions
For the first week gentle rest is important. Keeping the head slightly raised can help limit swelling.
- Avoid heavy lifting bending or straining
- Do not blow your nose forcefully
- Skip high impact exercise such as running or aerobics
- Keep the wound area dry according to your instructions
Medium term precautions
As bruising improves many people feel tempted to resume everything. However some tissues around the nose and tear sac are still delicate.
- Delay swimming and contact sports for at least four weeks
- Avoid hot tubs saunas and very dusty environments
- Use any nasal sprays or drops exactly as directed
- Ask before flying long haul during the early healing period
