The lens case should be cleaned every time you remove your lenses and discard the used solution. Regular cleaning prevents build‑up of deposits and microbes.
Routine Frequency
After inserting lenses each day, empty the case, rinse it with the recommended solution, and allow it to air‑dry face down on a clean tissue. Deep cleaning is not left to occasional intervals; it is part of each daily routine.
- Do not simply top up old solution without cleaning
- Tap water should not be used to rinse cases
- Replace the entire case every one to three months or as advised
- Hydrogen peroxide systems come with dedicated cases that must be renewed as directed
Signs of a Problem
Visible deposits, discolouration, or cracks in the case indicate it should be replaced immediately. Poor case hygiene is a major risk factor for serious lens‑related infection.
- Mark the date of opening on new cases if helpful
- Keep the case closed when not drying to avoid contamination
- Ask for spare cases so they can be rotated when travelling
- Discuss any history of recurrent infections with your practitioner
