Predicting long-term benefit requires more than measuring prescription alone.
Assessment includes refractive stability, accommodation, anterior chamber depth, corneal thickness, endothelial health, and, critically, the patient’s visual goals. Key questions include:
- How is your vision likely to change with age?
- Are you prepared for possible enhancements or future procedures?
Shared decision-making tools, long-term outcome data, and audit-driven practice guide recommendations. When uncertainty is high, conservative or lens-based options are often preferred to preserve future choices.
