Cleaning the lens case correctly removes residual solution and deposits that can harbour bacteria. It should be part of every lens removal routine.
Step-by-step
After inserting lenses, discard the old solution, rinse the empty wells with fresh disinfecting or multipurpose solution, and rub with clean fingers if advised. Shake out excess liquid and leave the case open, upside down, on a clean tissue to air‑dry.
- Avoid rinsing with tap water or using cotton buds inside the wells
- Keep the lid and case surfaces as dry and clean as possible
- Hydrogen peroxide cases should be treated according to manufacturer’s instructions
- Do not reuse solution that has been in contact with the case or lenses
Ongoing Care
Replace the case at least every one to three months or sooner if damaged or stained. Good case hygiene is as important as cleaning the lenses themselves.
- Carry a spare case when travelling in case of loss or contamination
- Store the case away from bathroom surfaces where possible
- Label cases clearly if more than one person in the household wears lenses
- Report any repeated infections or inflammation to your eye care professional
