Laser Enhancement After Cataract Surgery: When We Recommend It

1 min read

Laser vision correction after cataract surgery, sometimes called a laser touch-up or refractive enhancement, is a well-established approach to addressing residual refractive error following lens implantation. ¹ It is not a revision of the original surgery; it is a precise refinement of the corneal optics to achieve the intended refractive target.

At Blue Fin Vision®, laser enhancement is considered when three conditions are met: the eye has fully healed, the refractive prescription is stable across consecutive measurements, and the residual error is sufficient to produce a meaningful improvement in unaided visual acuity. Enhancement for minimal residual error is not routinely recommended.

The procedure most commonly used is LASIK, which offers rapid visual recovery and low postoperative discomfort. ² In eyes where corneal thickness or surface characteristics make LASIK unsuitable, surface-based laser treatment may be the preferred approach. The decision is guided by corneal imaging and biometric review performed at the postoperative assessment.

Patients should be aware that laser enhancement is included within the Blue Fin Vision® no-cost enhancement policy where clinically indicated. The goal is to achieve the visual outcome agreed before surgery, not to charge separately for corrections that fall within the expected range of variation. ³
