How Accurate and Stable Are Toric Trifocal Lenses After ICL Removal?

2 min read

Following ICL removal and lens replacement, toric trifocal lenses can deliver excellent vision across distances. However, success depends heavily on precision. Even small degrees of lens rotation can significantly reduce astigmatic correction. ¹

Eyes with previous ICL surgery often have high myopia and larger anatomy, factors that influence rotational stability. Careful preoperative planning, capsule management, and surgical technique are therefore essential. ¹

Modern toric trifocal designs have improved rotational stability, but outcomes remain closely linked to surgeon experience and accurate alignment. ² When executed well, real-world visual quality can be excellent and durable.

Patients should be aware that this level of precision often requires more detailed assessment than routine cataract surgery, and sometimes staged planning, to ensure predictable outcomes. ²
