PresbyMAX is itself a form of laser eye surgery, so if corneal laser is generally unsuitable for you, PresbyMAX will usually not be recommended either.
When it is usually not an option
Underlying reasons often apply to all laser types.
- Corneas too thin, irregular, or ectatic for safe reshaping
- Significant dry eye or surface disease that laser would worsen
- Unstable prescription or suspected keratoconus
- Lens or retinal disease where corneal laser cannot address the main problem
- Medical or medication‑related reasons that make elective laser unsafe
Alternative strategies
Other presbyopia treatments may still work.
- Contact lenses (multifocal or monovision)
- Lens‑based options such as refractive lens exchange
- ICL or other phakic lenses in suitable younger patients
- Simple spectacle solutions including varifocals or occupational lenses
- Personalised plan after a full refractive and medical assessment
