Laser eye surgery after LASEK is sometimes possible as an enhancement, but only if the cornea still has enough strength and thickness.
Favourable situations for enhancement
As with PRK, LASEK is a surface treatment, so any further laser must be conservative.
- Stable prescription and corneal shape on repeated scans
- Sufficient corneal thickness to stay above safety thresholds after further ablation
- No significant haze or scarring in the visual axis
- Ocular surface comfortable with manageable dryness
- Clear visual gain expected from fine‑tuning the correction
Reasons to avoid more surface laser
In some eyes, repeat ablation carries more risk than benefit.
- Borderline thickness or abnormal tomography patterns
- History of slow healing, haze, or significant discomfort after the first LASEK
- Higher‑order aberrations or irregularity better managed with lenses
- Consideration of lens‑based surgery instead if age and prescription fit
- Advice that maintaining corneal health outweighs extra spectacle freedom
