Laser conjunctival naevus removal

< 1 min read

Laser conjunctival naevus removal uses focused laser energy to lighten or remove selected pigmented patches on the eye surface in carefully chosen cases.

Why laser might be chosen

Some small, cosmetically troubling naevi without suspicious features can be treated with laser instead of full surgical excision. The aim is to reduce pigmentation while minimising cutting and speeding recovery.

  • Best suited to flat, well defined, non suspicious lesions
  • May be offered when cosmetic improvement is the main goal
  • Does not always remove all pigment completely
  • Thorough assessment is needed to confirm suitability and safety

The procedure and what to expect

Under topical anaesthetic drops, the surgeon applies targeted laser spots to break up pigment cells on the conjunctival surface. The treatment is usually quick and carried out in the clinic.

  • Mild discomfort, redness, and temporary light sensitivity are common afterwards
  • Lubricating and anti inflammatory drops support healing
  • Multiple sessions may be needed for the desired effect
  • Ongoing monitoring ensures no concerning changes develop over time
