Upper blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery that removes excess skin and sometimes fat from the upper lids to relieve hooding and improve both vision and appearance.
Why upper lid surgery is considered
Over time, the upper lids can droop and skin may fold over the lashes, making eyes feel heavy and reducing the ability to look up comfortably. Patients often notice difficulty with tasks like reading, driving, or applying make up.
- Removes redundant skin that may rest on the eyelashes
- Can widen the field of view and reduce brow strain
- Often combined with ptosis correction when the lid margin itself is low
- Can also provide a more refreshed, open eyed look
Procedure and recovery
Fine incisions are placed in the natural eyelid crease so scars are well hidden. After removing or reshaping tissue, the skin is closed with delicate stitches.
- Bruising and swelling peak in the first few days then gradually fade
- Cold compresses and head elevation improve comfort
- Most people return to desk work within about a week
- Follow up visits check healing and remove any external stitches
