Blepharoplasty

< 1 min read

Blepharoplasty is eyelid surgery that removes or reshapes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat to relieve heavy lids and improve vision or appearance.

Why blepharoplasty is performed

With age, eyelid skin stretches and supporting tissues weaken, causing hooding over the lashes or bags under the eyes. This can make the eyes feel tired, interfere with the upper field of view, and lead to self consciousness about looking worn out.

  • Upper lid surgery targets loose skin that may hang over the eyelashes
  • Lower lid procedures focus more on bags or puffiness
  • Can be functional, cosmetic, or a combination of both
  • Often done as a day case under local anaesthetic with sedation

Recovery and comfort

Bruising, swelling, and tightness around the eyes are normal during the first week or two. Most people find these changes manageable with cold compresses, pain relief, and regular lubrication.

  • Sleeping propped up helps swelling settle faster
  • Stitches are removed or dissolve after several days depending on technique
  • Make up and strenuous exercise are avoided until your surgeon advises
  • Report any sudden pain, vision change, or increasing redness promptly
