You must not drive immediately after conjunctival naevus laser removal surgery, and should only restart when your vision meets legal standards and feels comfortable.
First day and early review
On the day of surgery the treated eye is usually blurred, light sensitive, and sometimes patched, so driving is unsafe. Arrange transport home and for any early follow-up visits.
- Expect hazy vision and watering for at least the rest of the day.
- Use sunglasses outdoors to reduce glare from bright light.
- Follow all instructions on drops and protective shields.
- Your clinician will usually examine the eye within the first week.
- Ask specifically at that visit whether daytime driving is safe for you.
Building confidence with driving
Once cleared, start with cautious daytime journeys on familiar routes. Night driving often feels harder at first because of glare and halos from lights.
- Use lubricating drops before longer journeys to reduce dryness and blur.
- Delay night and poor weather driving until lights and reflections feel comfortable.
- Stop and seek advice if you notice double vision, sudden fogging, or eye pain.
- Remember that legal standards apply to vision with both eyes together, not just the operated eye.
- Attend ongoing follow-up so any surface irregularity or scarring can be managed promptly.
