Most people return to work within a few days after xanthelasma removal surgery, depending on comfort, bruising, and job type.
Office and light duties
Desk-based roles are usually manageable quite soon once soreness settles. The area may remain red, which can sometimes be covered with make-up once the skin surface has healed.
- Many patients resume light work after two to three days
- Use lubricating drops if your eyes feel dry during screen use
- Plan slightly shorter days at first if possible
- Avoid dusty or smoky rooms that could irritate the eyes
- Check that you meet driving standards before commuting by car
More physical or public-facing jobs
Work involving dirt, sweat, or close face-to-face contact may need a little longer break. Protecting the eyelid skin and feeling confident socially both matter.
- Discuss your role with the surgical team before the procedure
- Consider sunglasses if you feel self-conscious about redness or bruising
- Delay strenuous tasks for several days, or as advised
- Stop work and seek help if swelling or pain suddenly increase
- Plan follow-up visits around your work schedule
