When does vision stabilise after endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery?

< 1 min read

Vision after endoscopic DCR surgery is usually only mildly affected, mainly by tearing, swelling, and ointment in the early days.

Short-term changes in sight

The operated eye may feel watery and slightly blurred. Nasal swelling and tubes do not usually affect the eyeball directly.

  • Blur is often worse just after applying ointment
  • Tearing can temporarily smear the vision
  • Colours and general focus should remain broadly normal
  • Report sudden double vision, dark shadows, or strong pain urgently
  • Many daily tasks remain manageable with care

Longer-term visual comfort

As tearing improves, vision usually feels clearer and more stable. The eye surface often becomes more comfortable than before surgery.

  • Vision commonly feels settled within two to four weeks
  • Occasional watering or dryness can still cause fluctuations
  • Glasses prescriptions rarely need immediate change
  • Arrange a routine eye test once healing is complete
  • Seek review if blur persists or worsens instead of improving
