You must not drive immediately after chalazion removal surgery, but most people can drive again once the pad is removed and vision feels clear and comfortable.
Immediately after surgery
The operated eye is often covered for a short time, so you will need someone to take you home. Vision can remain blurred for several hours because of ointment and watering.
- Arrange a lift home in advance
- Expect some soreness, swelling, and light sensitivity
- Do not drive until you can comfortably see with both eyes open
- Follow any specific instructions from your surgeon
- Use sunglasses outdoors if brightness bothers you
Resuming safe driving
Once the pad is off and vision meets legal standards, short journeys are usually fine. Take time to rebuild confidence.
- Try a brief daytime journey before longer trips
- Use lubricating drops before driving if the eye feels dry
- Avoid driving if pain or blur suddenly worsen
- Delay night driving until glare and sensitivity improve
- Seek advice if you remain unsure about your safety on the road
