After lower blepharoplasty, swelling and bruising around the lower lids and cheeks are very common. Discomfort is usually manageable with simple pain relief and cold compresses.
Immediately after surgery
Your lower lids may feel tight, heavy, or numb. Incisions can be just under the lashes, inside the lid, or both, depending on the technique.
- Vision may be blurred by ointment or swelling.
- Bruising often peaks within two to three days before fading.
- Cold compresses help limit swelling and soothe discomfort.
- Prescribed drops and ointments protect against infection and dryness.
- You may be advised to sleep with your head elevated and avoid bending.
Healing during the following weeks
Most people feel steadily more comfortable over one to two weeks. Final lid contour and scar appearance continue to refine for several months.
- Stitches, if used externally, are usually removed within a week.
- Temporary tightness, lumpiness, or mild tearing are common.
- Report increasing pain, redness, or discharge promptly.
- Protect the area from sun with sunglasses and high-factor sunscreen.
- Attend follow-up visits so your surgeon can monitor position and symmetry.
