After upper blepharoplasty, bruising and swelling of the upper eyelids are very common. Discomfort is usually mild to moderate and improves steadily over the first week.
First days after surgery
Your upper lids may feel tight, heavy, or numb. Stitches along the natural eyelid crease are often covered by small tapes or ointment.
- Vision may be smeared by ointment and partly obscured by swelling.
- Bruising often looks most dramatic at two to three days, then fades.
- Cold compresses and simple pain relief help control discomfort.
- Prescribed drops and ointments reduce infection and dryness risk.
- You will be advised to sleep with your head elevated and avoid bending.
Healing of the lids and scars
Most people feel much more comfortable within seven to ten days. Scars soften and fade over several months.
- Stitches are usually removed within five to ten days.
- Mild tightness, lumpiness, or itching are normal during healing.
- Report increasing pain, redness, or discharge promptly.
- Protect the area from sun with sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Regular follow-up ensures the lid contour and function remain good.
