Conjunctival naevus removal surgery is generally not painful during the procedure because anaesthetic drops and often a small injection are used. You may feel some pressure but not sharp pain.
During surgery
Numbing drops and local anaesthetic make the surface of the eye insensitive. You remain awake but comfortable.
- You may see lights and movement but not feel cutting
- Any discomfort is treated promptly with extra anaesthetic
- The procedure is relatively quick and carried out as a day case
- The removed tissue is usually sent for laboratory analysis
After surgery
The eye may feel scratchy, watery, and light-sensitive for a few days. Pain is usually mild.
- Lubricating and antibiotic drops soothe the surface
- Simple painkillers control any ache effectively
- Severe pain, worsening redness, or vision changes need urgent review
- Most people return to normal activities once irritation settles
