Computer use after LASIK

< 1 min read

Computer work is usually possible soon after LASIK, but screens can aggravate early dryness and strain. A few simple adjustments make the process easier.

Early Use

Short periods at a screen are often fine within a day or two.

  • Start with brief sessions and build up gradually as comfort allows.
  • Use preservative‑free lubricating drops regularly, especially before and during screen time.
  • Follow the 20‑20‑20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
  • Reduce screen brightness and avoid strong glare from surrounding lights.

Optimising Comfort

Good ergonomics help protect healing eyes.

  • Position the monitor slightly below eye level so the eyelids cover more of the cornea.
  • Take regular breaks from intense close work for the first few weeks.
  • Report persistent eye strain or blur at follow‑up visits, as a temporary adjustment in lubrication or prescription may help.
  • Maintain lid hygiene and general dry‑eye measures if recommended by your surgeon.
