What is minimally invasive glaucoma surgery?

< 1 min read

Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) refers to a group of operations that lower eye pressure using tiny devices or targeted laser treatment. They are designed to be safer and less invasive than traditional glaucoma surgery.

How MIGS works

MIGS procedures are usually performed through very small incisions, often at the same time as cataract surgery. They aim to improve the outflow of fluid from the eye so that pressure is reduced more gently.

  • Typically offered for mild to moderate glaucoma
  • Shorter operating times and quicker recovery than many older operations
  • Can reduce the number of pressure-lowering drops needed
