PresbyMAX® Laser Eye Surgery at Blue Fin Vision®

Freedom from Reading Glasses with PresbyMAX® in London, Hertfordshire & Essex

From Only £2,750 per eye

What Is PresbyMAX®?

PresbyMAX® is a laser procedure that corrects presbyopia (age-related reading vision loss) by creating multiple focal zones on the cornea – reducing or eliminating dependence on reading glasses.

The laser treatment takes just a few minutes per eye, with most patients noticing improved near vision within hours.

Unlike standard laser eye surgery, which corrects a single focal point, PresbyMAX® uses the SCHWIND AMARIS laser to sculpt distinct zones for near, intermediate and distance vision. The central cornea is optimised for reading, with smooth transition zones for stable, high-quality vision at all distances.

Our lead consultant has performed over 55,000 vision correction procedures with complication rates three to five times below UK averages (independently audited through the National Ophthalmology Database).

Is PresbyMAX® Right for You?

PresbyMAX® typically suits patients aged 40-60 experiencing presbyopia. It can correct:

  • Presbyopia (difficulty focusing on near objects)
  • Short-sightedness (myopia) up to approximately -8.00 D
  • Long-sightedness (hyperopia) up to approximately +4.00 D
  • Astigmatism up to approximately 4.00 D

PresbyMAX® may also suit you if:

  • You have previously had laser eye surgery for distance vision and now need reading correction
  • You have had cataract surgery but still require reading glasses
  • You want to reduce dependence on varifocals or bifocals

You may be better suited to another procedure if you have:

  • Very high prescriptions
  • Thin corneas
  • Early cataract changes (lens replacement may be preferable)

How PresbyMAX® Works

PresbyMAX® uses a multifocal, bi-aspheric ablation profile to reshape the cornea into distinct vision zones:

  • Central zone: Optimised for near vision (reading, phone, close work)
  • Intermediate zone: For computer screens and dashboard displays
  • Peripheral zone: For distance vision (driving, TV, outdoors)
  • Transition zones: Smooth blending between areas for stable visual quality

The treatment is fully personalised to your prescription, eye anatomy and lifestyle needs. Most patients adapt to their new multifocal vision within several weeks.

What to Expect

Before Surgery

Your complimentary consultation includes corneal topography for multifocal zoning, pachymetry and detailed prescription assessment. Your consultant explains the procedure and answers all questions. Formal consent follows UK refractive standards, including a seven-day cooling-off period.

During Surgery

The procedure takes just a few minutes per eye using the SCHWIND AMARIS laser:

  1. Preparation: Anaesthetic drops numb your eyes – you feel no pain
  2. Laser application: The cornea is reshaped to create multiple focal zones
  3. Completion: No stitches required – you can go home the same day

After Surgery

You’ll rest in a private, en-suite recovery room before going home the same day. We provide:

  • All post-operative drops included
  • A three-course meal for you and your companion
  • A celebratory bottle of champagne
  • Structured follow-up appointments
  • Direct access to our team for any concerns

Most patients notice immediate improvement in near vision, with overall visual quality continuing to enhance over the following days and weeks.

Patient Experience

“I woke up to already have impeccable vision. It was less than 12 hours later, and I went in for my check up and was reading better than 20/20 on my right eye and at 20/20 on my left eye.

The surgery is somewhat of a miracle. The fact I’ve been afforded perfect sight at the age of 30 having been wearing glasses all day every day for a decade is the stuff of miracles.

Would recommend – 5 stars!!”

PresbyMAX® FAQs

What is PresbyMAX® laser eye surgery?

PresbyMAX® is an advanced laser procedure designed to correct presbyopia, the natural loss of near focusing ability that affects everyone from their mid-40s. It uses excimer laser technology to create multiple focal zones on the cornea, enabling clear vision at near, intermediate and far distances without reading glasses.

Standard procedures like LASIK correct distance vision only, meaning reading glasses are still needed after age 45. PresbyMAX® specifically addresses presbyopia by creating a multifocal cornea that allows clear vision at all distances. It can also correct any existing short-sightedness, long-sightedness or astigmatism simultaneously.

PresbyMAX® is designed for patients aged 45 and above who are frustrated by reading glasses or varifocals. It suits those with presbyopia alone or combined with other refractive errors. Patients who have had previous laser eye surgery or cataract surgery may also be candidates. Realistic expectations about multifocal vision are important.

Yes. PresbyMAX® simultaneously corrects presbyopia alongside short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism, potentially eliminating the need for both distance and reading glasses in a single procedure.

PresbyMAX® is not painful. Anaesthetic drops ensure comfort during the procedure. Afterwards, mild discomfort similar to standard laser surgery may occur, depending on the technique used. Any discomfort is temporary and well-managed with drops.

Recovery depends on the technique used. Near vision often improves noticeably within hours to days. Most patients return to work within 1–3 days. The brain requires 4–12 weeks to fully adapt to the multifocal corneal zones, with vision continuing to improve throughout this neuroadaptation period.

Near vision improvement often begins within hours after PresbyMAX® laser eye surgery. Distance vision may fluctuate initially before stabilising over weeks. Full neuroadaptation typically takes 4–12 weeks, during which vision at all distances continues to improve as the brain learns to use the multiple focal zones.

Common temporary effects include fluctuating vision during adaptation, halos and glare at night, and dry eye symptoms. Most side effects improve significantly over 4–12 weeks as the brain adapts. A small percentage of patients may not fully adapt to multifocal vision.

Yes, in many cases. PresbyMAX® can be performed after previous laser eye surgery or cataract surgery. A comprehensive assessment will determine whether it is suitable for your eyes and what results you can realistically expect.

The goal of PresbyMAX® is to significantly reduce or eliminate dependence on reading glasses for most daily activities. Some patients may still prefer glasses for very fine print or prolonged close work in certain lighting conditions, but most find they can manage comfortably without.
