What is pinguecula surgery?

< 1 min read

Pinguecula surgery removes a small yellowish bump on the white of the eye that is causing irritation or cosmetic concern. A pinguecula is a benign degeneration of the conjunctiva.

How pinguecula surgery works

The raised tissue is carefully excised from the surface of the eye. In some cases a conjunctival graft is placed to encourage smooth healing and reduce recurrence.

  • Usually done under local anaesthetic as a day-case
  • Lubricating and anti-inflammatory drops are used afterwards
  • Redness gradually fades as the surface heals
