PRESBYOND® Laser Eye Surgery at Blue Fin Vision®
Freedom from Reading Glasses with PRESBYOND® in London, Hertfordshire & Essex
From Only £2,750 per eye
Is PRESBYOND® Right for You?
PRESBYOND® is a ZEISS laser procedure that corrects presbyopia (age-related reading vision loss) using blended vision technology – reducing or eliminating dependence on reading glasses.
The procedure takes just a few minutes per eye, with most patients noticing improved near vision within hours.
Unlike traditional monovision (which can leave a blur zone at intermediate distances), PRESBYOND® creates a unique “Blend Zone” that allows both eyes to work together. The dominant eye is optimised for distance, while the non-dominant eye is set slightly for near tasks. Your brain seamlessly merges the images for natural, binocular vision at all distances.
Our lead consultant has performed over 55,000 vision correction procedures with complication rates three to five times below UK averages (independently audited through the National Ophthalmology Database).
Is PRESBYOND® Right for You?
PRESBYOND® typically suits patients aged 40-60 experiencing presbyopia. It can correct:
- Presbyopia (difficulty focusing on near objects)
- Short-sightedness (myopia) up to approximately -8.00 D
- Long-sightedness (hyperopia) up to approximately +2.00 D
- Astigmatism up to approximately 2.00 D
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Are frustrated by reading glasses or varifocals
- Have healthy eyes without significant ocular pathology
- Have a stable prescription for at least 12 months
- Want a minimally invasive solution with rapid recovery
You may be better suited to another procedure if you have:
- Very high prescriptions (outside treatment range)
- Thin corneas
Early cataract changes (lens replacement may be preferable)

How PRESBYOND® Works
PRESBYOND® uses ZEISS wavefront-optimised ablation to create a continuous gradient of refractive power across each cornea:
- Dominant eye: Optimised for distance vision (driving, TV, outdoors)
- Non-dominant eye: Set slightly myopic for near tasks (reading, phone, close work)
- Blend Zone: Extended depth of field in both eyes, eliminating the intermediate blur zone of traditional monovision
This approach allows your brain to seamlessly merge images from both eyes for natural binocular vision. Most patients adapt quickly, with minimal side effects compared to conventional monovision.
What to Expect
Before Surgery
Your complimentary consultation includes wavefront analysis to plan your blend zone, corneal topography and detailed prescription assessment. Your consultant determines eye dominance and explains the procedure. Formal consent follows UK refractive standards, including a seven-day cooling-off period.
During Surgery
The procedure takes just a few minutes per eye using the ZEISS laser platform:
- Preparation: Anaesthetic drops numb your eyes – you feel no pain
- Flap creation: A thin corneal flap is created (similar to LASIK)
- Wavefront ablation: The laser reshapes each cornea according to your personalised blend zone profile
- Flap repositioning: The flap is replaced, acting as a natural bandage
After Surgery
You’ll rest in a private, en-suite recovery room before going home the same day. We provide:
- All post-operative drops included
- A three-course meal for you and your companion
- A celebratory bottle of champagne
- Structured follow-up appointments
- Direct access to our team for any concerns
Most patients notice improved near vision within hours, with distance and intermediate vision following soon after.
Recovery and Results
- Day 1: Near vision noticeably improved, some fluctuation normal
- Days 2-7: Most patients return to daily activities with good functional vision
- Weeks 2-4: Brain adapts to blended vision, clarity continues to improve
- Weeks 4-8: Full adaptation achieved for most patients
PRESBYOND® demonstrates high patient satisfaction, with most patients achieving independence from reading glasses for everyday tasks.

Patient Experience
“I woke up to already have impeccable vision. It was less than 12 hours later, and I went in for my check up and was reading better than 20/20 on my right eye and at 20/20 on my left eye.
The surgery is somewhat of a miracle. The fact I’ve been afforded perfect sight at the age of 30 having been wearing glasses all day every day for a decade is the stuff of miracles.
Would recommend – 5 stars!!”

PRESBYOND® FAQs
What is PRESBYOND® Laser Blended Vision?
PRESBYOND® is an advanced ZEISS laser procedure that corrects presbyopia by extending the depth of focus in each eye and creating a unique “Blend Zone” where both eyes work together. The dominant eye is optimised for distance, the non-dominant eye for near, with an extended range allowing seamless blended vision at all distances.
How does PRESBYOND® differ from traditional monovision?
Traditional monovision creates a gap between distance and near focal points, and only about 60% of patients can tolerate it. PRESBYOND® creates overlapping focal ranges with a smooth blend zone, preserving binocular vision and depth perception. Approximately 97% of patients successfully adapt to PRESBYOND®.
Who is suitable for PRESBYOND®?
PRESBYOND® is ideal for patients aged 40–60 experiencing presbyopia who want freedom from reading glasses. You should have a stable prescription and pass a pre-operative contact lens trial that simulates blended vision. Those who cannot tolerate the trial or require identical distance vision in both eyes may not be suitable.
What can PRESBYOND® correct?
PRESBYOND® primarily addresses presbyopia but can simultaneously correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism. This means patients over 40 with existing refractive errors can address all their vision needs in one procedure.
What happens during the PRESBYOND® procedure?
PRESBYOND® follows a LASIK-based approach. A femtosecond laser creates a corneal flap, then an excimer laser reshapes each cornea according to a personalised profile. The dominant eye receives primarily distance correction; the non-dominant eye receives primarily near correction, both with extended depth of focus. The procedure takes approximately 15–20 minutes for both eyes.
What is recovery like after PRESBYOND®?
Recovery is similar to LASIK, with most patients returning to work within 1–2 days. Functional vision at most distances is typically achieved within 24–48 hours. The brain requires 4–12 weeks to fully blend images from both eyes seamlessly, with vision continuing to improve throughout this period.
Does PRESBYOND® affect distance vision?
Most patients find their distance vision is virtually unaffected by the treatment. There may be an adjustment period of a few weeks as you adapt to the different focusing abilities of each eye, but this typically resolves quickly.
What are the risks of PRESBYOND®?
Common temporary effects include mild imbalance between eyes initially, halos at night, and dry eye symptoms. Most effects improve over 4–12 weeks. Approximately 3% of patients may not fully adapt to blended vision. Pre-operative contact lens trials identify most patients who would struggle to adapt.
Can I have PRESBYOND® if I have had previous eye surgery?
Yes, in many cases. PRESBYOND® can be performed after previous laser eye surgery or cataract surgery. Your consultant will assess whether it is suitable given your surgical history and current eye health.
How long do PRESBYOND® results last?
PRESBYOND® provides permanent corneal reshaping with stable long-term results. As with all presbyopia treatments, very advanced age may eventually affect near vision further, but most patients enjoy many years of glasses-free vision at all distances.
