Yag laser capsulotomy

< 1 min read

YAG laser capsulotomy is a simple clinic procedure that clears a cloudy membrane behind a lens implant after cataract surgery, restoring sharper vision.

Why capsulotomy is needed

Months or years after cataract surgery, the thin capsule that holds the artificial lens can thicken or become hazy, causing blurred vision and glare. Laser treatment creates a small opening in this capsule so light can pass through clearly again.

  • Common and usually quick, taking only a few minutes per eye
  • Performed with numbing drops and often no injections
  • Vision often improves within hours to days
  • Does not usually need stitches or a hospital stay

During and after the procedure

You sit at a machine similar to that used for routine eye checks while the doctor applies painless laser pulses. Afterwards, you may notice floaters or mild light sensitivity for a short time.

  • Pressure lowering drops may be given, and pressure is sometimes checked
  • Serious complications like retinal problems are rare but important to know about
  • Driving is often possible soon after, once vision feels clear and safe
  • Contact the clinic urgently if you notice a curtain, flashes, or sudden vision loss
