YAG laser capsulotomy is a quick laser procedure to treat posterior capsular opacification, a common cause of blurred vision after cataract surgery. It creates a small opening in the cloudy capsule behind the lens implant.
How YAG capsulotomy works
With the eye numbed using drops, a focused laser beam makes a tiny opening in the back of the lens capsule. Light can then pass through clearly again, improving vision.
- Usually completed in a few minutes in the clinic
- Vision often improves within hours to days
- Most people can resume normal activities shortly afterwards
