What is conjunctival naevus laser removal?

< 1 min read

Conjunctival naevus laser removal uses carefully targeted laser energy to lighten or reduce selected pigmented moles on the white of the eye. It is only considered after full specialist assessment of the lesion to ensure it is suitable for this approach.

How laser treatment is performed

After numbing the eye with drops, small laser spots are applied to the surface pigment of the naevus using a microscope for precise aiming. Several sessions may be needed, and in many cases surgical excision remains the preferred option if there are any concerns about growth or change.

  • Treatment is usually carried out in a procedure room with you awake
  • Protective lenses and careful focusing help keep the laser on target
  • Mild redness or irritation can occur for a short time afterwards
  • Regular follow-up is needed to monitor the naevus over time
