Lower blepharoplasty

< 1 min read

Lower blepharoplasty is surgery on the lower eyelids to reduce bags, puffiness, or loose skin that can make the eyes look tired and sometimes feel heavy.

Reasons for lower lid surgery

Ageing, genetics, and fluid changes can cause fat pockets under the eyes to bulge and the skin to wrinkle. While mainly a cosmetic concern, some people also experience irritation from skin rubbing or difficulty wearing glasses comfortably.

  • Can be performed through the inside of the lid or just beneath the lashes
  • May involve redistributing or removing fat and tightening skin
  • Aims to smooth the junction between eyelid and cheek
  • Often combined with skincare or other procedures for best effect

Aftercare and potential effects

Swelling and bruising around the cheeks and lids are common initially and may take a couple of weeks to settle. Careful aftercare reduces the risk of lid pulling or dryness.

  • Use lubricating drops and ointment as advised to keep the eyes comfortable
  • Avoid heavy lifting, bending, and vigorous exercise early on
  • Protect the area from sun with sunglasses and high factor cream
  • Contact your surgeon if you notice persistent pulling, asymmetry, or pain
