Lasik eye surgery

< 1 min read

LASIK is a laser eye surgery that reshapes the cornea to correct short sight, long sight, and astigmatism, often reducing or removing the need for glasses.

How LASIK works

After numbing drops, a femtosecond laser creates a thin flap in the surface of the cornea, which is gently lifted.

An excimer laser then precisely reshapes the underlying tissue according to your prescription before the flap is smoothed back into place to heal naturally.

  • The procedure itself usually takes only a few minutes per eye
  • Both eyes are commonly treated in the same session
  • Most people feel only pressure and see lights, not pain
  • Careful measurements beforehand ensure a personalised treatment plan

Recovery, comfort, and safety

Vision often improves within 24 hours, though dryness, halos, and fluctuating clarity are common in the early weeks and gradually settle.

Good aftercare and regular check ups help keep the eyes comfortable and safe.

  • Use lubricating and medicated drops exactly as prescribed
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes and follow guidance on driving, exercise, and make up
  • Most people return to desk work within a few days
  • Serious complications are uncommon but are discussed fully before surgery
