PRK surgery itself is not painful because anaesthetic drops are used, but recovery can be more uncomfortable than LASIK. The surface layer needs time to regrow, which causes soreness.

Numbing drops block pain while the surface cells are removed and the laser reshapes the cornea. You may feel pressure and see lights.

Recovery discomfort
For several days after PRK, moderate pain, burning, and watering are common. These symptoms gradually ease as the epithelium heals.

- Severe or prolonged pain should be checked promptly
- Most people feel much more comfortable after the bandage lens is removed
