MIGS procedures are usually not painful because they are done under local anaesthetic with or without sedation. You may feel pressure or brief discomfort but not sharp pain.
During the operation
Numbing injections or drops keep the eye comfortable. Surgeons work through tiny incisions using delicate instruments.
- You might see lights or shadows but not the details of surgery
- Pressure sensations are common as fluid pathways are adjusted
- Any pain can be reported immediately and extra anaesthetic given
- Procedures are typically shorter than traditional glaucoma surgery
Post-operative comfort
After MIGS, mild ache, grittiness, or light sensitivity can occur. These discomforts usually settle as healing progresses.
- Pain is often well controlled with standard tablets and drops
- Strong or worsening pain is unusual and should be reviewed
- Follow instructions carefully for drops and activity limits
- Attend all follow-up visits to monitor pressure and recovery
