Gold weight eyelid surgery is generally well tolerated. Local anaesthetic with or without sedation prevents sharp pain during the procedure, and post-operative discomfort is usually mild to moderate.
During surgery
Numbing injections are given into the upper eyelid. Once they take effect, you should feel only pressure and movement.
- A small pocket is created in the lid to place the weight
- Brief stinging occurs only while the anaesthetic is injected
- Sutures secure the weight but are not felt as pain at the time
- Any discomfort can be reported and more anaesthetic given
Afterwards
The eyelid may ache, feel heavy, and look bruised. These sensations tend to settle over several days.
- Cold packs and head elevation help reduce throbbing
- Standard painkillers are usually enough for comfort
- Sharp or increasing pain, especially with redness or discharge, should be assessed
- Most patients are relieved by the improved eye closure once healing occurs
