Brow lift surgery is usually done under general anaesthetic or deep sedation, so the operation itself is not painful. Afterwards, tightness and headache-like discomfort are common but manageable.
On the day of surgery
Incisions are made either in the hairline or within forehead creases. Anaesthesia keeps you unaware of these steps.
- Pain control medicines are started before you wake
- You may feel tight bandages or dressings across the forehead
- Sensation can be altered or numb around the scalp initially
- Pain scores guide further medication in recovery
Recovery sensations
Over the next few days, the forehead may throb or feel heavy. These symptoms usually respond well to treatment.
- Cold compresses and head elevation reduce swelling and ache
- Simple pain tablets are often sufficient after the first day or two
- Severe pain, especially with vision changes, is unusual and needs review
- Numbness may last for weeks but is rarely painful
