YAG laser capsulotomy usually does not hurt. Numbing drops are used, and most people feel only brief taps or pops of light.
How it feels
You sit at a machine similar to a normal eye exam. A contact lens may be placed on the eye.
- Small clicks and flashes of light are noticed during treatment
- Some patients feel a tiny tap or shock-like sensation
- The procedure is quick, often less than five minutes
- Significant pain during the laser is very uncommon
After the procedure
Mild ache or headache can occur for a few hours. These symptoms usually settle with rest and simple pain relief.
- Vision may be temporarily blurry from drops and floaters
- Anti-inflammatory drops may be prescribed
- Severe pain, redness, or sudden vision loss should be reported urgently
- Most people resume normal activities the same day
