Xanthelasma removal is usually done under local anaesthetic, so the procedure itself should not hurt. Afterwards, the area can feel tender or slightly sore but is rarely very painful.
During removal
Numbing injections or cream are applied to the eyelid skin. Once effective, you may feel pressure but not sharp pain.
- Techniques include surgical excision, laser, or chemical cautery
- Stinging from anaesthetic is brief and quickly fades
- Any discomfort is managed by adding more anaesthetic
- The procedure is typically short and done as a day case
Recovery discomfort
Afterwards, you may notice stinging, mild ache, or tightness at the treatment site. These symptoms normally improve over a few days.
- Simple painkillers and cold compresses help relieve soreness
- Ointment or dressings protect healing skin
- Severe pain, spreading redness, or discharge should be checked promptly
- Scarring and recurrence are discussed before treatment to set expectations
