Eye bag removal surgery is usually not painful during the operation, as local anaesthetic and sometimes sedation are used. Recovery brings bruising and tightness, but pain is generally manageable.
During surgery
After numbing injections, the lower eyelids become insensitive to pain. You may notice pressure or movement but not cutting.
- Sedation can make you feel calm or drowsy
- Pain levels are checked and extra anaesthetic given if needed
- Incisions are often hidden inside the lid or just under the lashes
- The procedure is usually completed as a day case
After surgery
The lids may feel sore, swollen, and heavy for a few days. These symptoms usually settle with simple care.
- Cold compresses and standard painkillers control discomfort well
- Severe pain or sudden vision change is rare and should be reviewed urgently
- Bruising typically fades over one to two weeks
- Most patients feel soreness is less than they expected
