What are keratoconus symptoms?

< 1 min read

Keratoconus is a condition where the cornea becomes thinner and bulges forwards, creating an irregular cone shape. This change in curvature leads to a range of visual symptoms that often progress over time.

Early Symptoms

In the early stages, people may notice increasing short-sight, astigmatism, and blurred or ghosted vision that glasses no longer fully correct. Vision can fluctuate from day to day and between different pairs of lenses.

  • Frequent prescription changes
  • Distorted or double images, especially at night
  • Increased sensitivity to glare and bright lights

More Advanced Symptoms

As keratoconus progresses, vision may become significantly blurred even with strong lenses. Some patients experience eye rubbing due to associated allergies or irritation, which can worsen the condition.
