Is PRESBYOND surgery suitable if prescription is still changing?

< 1 min read

PRESBYOND is generally not suitable while the prescription is still changing.

Problems with ongoing change

Results may not remain accurate.

  • Refractive shift can quickly undo the benefits of surgery
  • Changing refraction may indicate undiagnosed corneal disease
  • Increases likelihood of needing further procedures
  • Makes it harder to plan the blended‑vision balance between eyes
  • Conflicts with standard refractive surgery safety guidelines

Recommended approach

Stabilisation comes first.

  • Monitor prescription over time to confirm when it becomes stable
  • Use corneal topography to exclude ectasia or other pathology
  • Manage vision with spectacles or contact lenses in the meantime
  • Reassess suitability once stability is documented
  • Consider lens-based options if change is driven by early cataract rather than cornea
