Laser eye surgery is often very suitable for low myopia, and outcomes are typically excellent when the eyes are otherwise healthy.
Why low myopia often works well
Lower corrections remove less corneal tissue, which usually keeps a generous safety margin and offers precise results.
- Small to moderate minus prescriptions within standard treatment ranges
- Stable refraction over at least one to two years
- Normal corneal thickness and regular topography on scans
- Low risk of corneal ectasia compared with very high prescriptions
- High likelihood of achieving good unaided distance vision
Points still needing assessment
Even with low myopia, surgery is not automatic. A full eye health review ensures safety and long-term comfort.
- Screening for dry eye and eyelid disease that could affect quality of vision
- Checking pupil size, especially for night-vision demands
- Excluding subtle keratoconus or irregularity on tomography
- Discussing presbyopia if in the mid-forties or older
- Confirming that the benefits justify the small surgical risks
