Adequate anterior chamber depth is a key requirement for ICL surgery and strongly supports suitability, but other factors still need to be checked.
Why chamber depth matters
It protects internal structures.
- Ensures enough space between the ICL and natural lens to avoid cataract formation
- Helps maintain a safe distance from the corneal endothelium
- Reduces risk of angle crowding and pressure rise
- Allows proper vault once the lens is in place
- Forms part of manufacturer and regulatory safety guidelines
Other requirements beyond depth
Depth alone is not sufficient.
- Healthy endothelium, retina, and optic nerve
- Stable prescription and suitable refractive range
- No uncontrolled glaucoma or uveitis
- Accurate biometry for sizing to achieve appropriate vault
- Commitment to follow‑up including periodic vault scans
