What to expect after eye bag removal surgery

< 1 min read

After eye bag removal surgery, it is normal to experience swelling, bruising, and tightness under the eyes before a smoother appearance develops.

First days after surgery

The lower lids and cheeks may look puffy and discoloured. Vision can be slightly blurred by ointment and watering, but strong pain is unusual and should be checked.

  • Cold compresses can help reduce swelling if advised
  • Bruising often spreads downwards before fading
  • Stitches may be visible along the lash line or inside the eyelid
  • Use prescribed drops and ointment exactly as directed
  • Sleep with your head raised on extra pillows

Healing and appearance over time

Swelling and bruising gradually improve over the first couple of weeks. The under-eye area usually looks flatter and feels less heavy as healing completes.

  • Most people feel more comfortable and presentable after about two weeks
  • Fine scars continue to soften and fade for many months
  • Temporary dryness or watering is common and often improves with lubricants
  • Contact the clinic urgently if you develop severe pain, spreading redness, or sudden vision loss
  • Attend all follow-up visits so healing and lid position can be monitored
