What to expect after dermatochalasis surgery

< 1 min read

Dermatochalasis surgery removes excess eyelid skin to open up your field of view and refresh appearance. Afterwards, bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort around the lids are very common but usually improve steadily.

First days after surgery

Your eyelids may feel tight, heavy, or numb. Stitches and small tapes often support the new lid contour and protect the wounds.

  • Vision can be blurred by swelling and ointment on the lashes.
  • Bruising tends to look worse for the first two to three days.
  • Cold compresses and simple pain relief help control discomfort.
  • Prescribed drops and ointments reduce infection and dryness risk.
  • You will be advised to sleep with your head elevated and avoid bending.

Healing over the following weeks

Most people feel more comfortable within one to two weeks. Final scar appearance and lid shape continue to refine over several months.

  • Stitches are usually removed within five to ten days.
  • Mild tightness, lumpiness, or itching are normal parts of healing.
  • Report increasing pain, redness, or discharge promptly.
  • Protect the area from sun with sunglasses and high-factor sunscreen.
  • Attend follow-up visits so your surgeon can monitor your progress.
