Tear duct surgery follow-up

< 1 min read

Follow up after tear duct surgery is essential to confirm that the new passage is working well. These visits also check healing of the skin nose and any stent.

What happens at follow up

The clinician examines the wound around the nose and inner eyelid. They may pass a tiny amount of saline through the duct to confirm patency.

If a silicone stent is present its position and tension are checked. Later visits often include removal of stitches and the stent.

Typical schedule

Appointment timing varies but there is usually an early and a later review. This spreads care over the main healing phases.

  • First visit within one to two weeks after surgery
  • Further review around six to twelve weeks
  • Additional checks if watering persists or infections occur
  • Advice about scar care and when to resume activities
