Can I shower after eye bag removal surgery?

< 1 min read

You can usually shower carefully soon after eye bag removal surgery, but you must protect the lower eyelids and incisions from direct water, soap, and rubbing.

Early showering advice

The skin under the eyes is delicate and bruised. Gentle washing keeps you comfortable while lowering infection risk.

  • Shower with your back to the water and avoid direct spray on your face
  • Keep your eyes closed and do not rub the eyelids
  • Pat the skin dry with a clean towel instead of wiping
  • Avoid very hot showers that may increase bleeding or swelling
  • Do not use eye make-up until your surgeon confirms it is safe

Returning to normal washing

As swelling and tenderness settle, you can gradually relax these precautions. Follow your team’s advice about stitches and scar care.

  • Normal gentle showering is often possible after about one week
  • Continue to avoid vigorous rubbing of the lower lids for longer
  • Use mild skincare and shampoos on healed areas
  • Delay swimming pools and hot tubs until fully cleared
  • Contact the clinic if redness, discharge, or pain increase after showering
