Can I shower after conjunctival naevus removal surgery?

< 1 min read

You can usually shower soon after conjunctival naevus removal surgery, but you must keep soap, shampoo, and direct water away from the operated eye.

Early showering precautions

The eye surface is delicate and easily irritated. Gentle washing keeps you clean while reducing infection risk.

  • Shower with your back to the water and avoid direct spray on your face
  • Keep your eyes closed and do not rub the operated eye
  • Pat around the eye dry with a clean towel instead of wiping
  • Avoid very hot showers that may increase redness or swelling
  • Do not use eye make-up until your clinician confirms it is safe

Returning to normal washing

As soreness and light sensitivity settle, you can gradually relax these precautions. Follow your team’s advice about ongoing care.

  • Normal gentle showering is often possible after several days
  • Continue to avoid vigorous eye rubbing for longer
  • Keep strong products away from the eye surface
  • Delay swimming pools and hot tubs until fully cleared
  • Contact the clinic if redness, discharge, or pain increase after showering
